Trivia Question #1

Starting today, we will pose daily trivia questions to be answered in the comment section of the blog. Daily winners will be entered into a weekly raffle drawing for a free tshirt, and national fame of course. The weekly drawing will occur every Sunday night, to provide extra incentive to wake up and face the work week. Questions will range from MS related info to geographic trivia.

Trivia Question #1:

Multiple Sclerosis is a neurodegenerative autoimmune disease.

What part of the nueron is destroyed in Multiple Sclerosis?

I believe the answer to your question is:

The Myelin Sheath is destroyed. In several places...hence ''Multiple''.

I think the answer is the Myelin Sheath that covers the Axon. We are all very proud and THANK YOU for helping us beat this MonSter.

the myelin is destroyed, but the myelin is actually the layer outside the nueron. The part of the nueron which is affected is the axon.

In all my medical career, I would believe it to be the Myelin. Thank you guys for making our day at work a little more exciting!

Hi guys,

Surrounding the neuron is a fatty layer known as the mylin sheath. This is destroyed through a process called demylination. This causes massive scarring (scleroses) on the sheaths. Hence the name multiple sclerosis. Keep pedaling! Mary B
