Havre, MT

We are enjoying round 3 at the Best Western "great northern inn" continental breakfast here in Havre, MT. Our stay at the RV park has been very convenient and comfortable - this is probably the best place to stay in town. $30 buys you access to jacuzzi, pool, wireless internet, showers and a somewhat secluded campsite, at least for Havre. Not too many trees in these parts.

Today we will try to ride 88 miles to Malta. The wind is supposed at our backs but it's been from the east the last two days. One of Karl's headset spacers cracked so he is currently looking around town to find something to act as a spacer. Shouldn't take long and we'll be on the road soon. People advise against stopping in the reservation towns so we have to really push to make Malta. Mason just advised me there is an easterly wind so it may not happen.

Thanks to everyone who has contacted us about places to stay - we usually have no idea where we're staying when we leave in the morning. Tonight we'll probably end up staying on the side of the highway, but thats not so bad way out here in the middle of nowhere. Lot's of stars and plenty of flat places to put your tent.

Last night the front rolled through - huge winds from the west! It was much easier to get out of the sleeping bag this morning.

The wind is good for us but stopped a group headed west in their tracks. They had planned on going to Havre, but got stuck in Chinook with us last night. Thanks for the weather info, it's become an important part of our day.

Special Hello from Blacksburg! You guys are so inspirational, and what a great blog you have--I have just been catching up, and read everything from the beginning.

It was so great to see you, Mason, if only briefly, at your goodbye party in Seattle, and also to meet Don. Now I'm back in Blacksburg. We went to the dedication of the memorial yesterday on the Drillfield--it was really well done. You'd be proud--we biked there and back. (All of 4 miles!) Today is the first day of the new school year, so the town is swarming with students again. It's nice to have them back.

It's fun to sit here at my desk and think of you all out there biking across Montana! Keep it up!

It looks like you have plenty of family and friends to write you words of encouragement so I will no longer leave comments. Have a safe trip and I hope you gain many pledges for MS. What you are trying to do is a most worthwhile cause and each of you deserve a pat on the back. Thanks dudes!
